Where Sally Sleeps

6 months ago, we were prepping the baby's room, certain we'd finish before she was born. 5 1/2 months ago, the girl surprised us by coming early. And thus all of our plans flew out the nursery window. We put a bassinet in our own bedroom and pretty much called it quits.

And then. We got used to having a babe in the house, and we started our house projects back up. First Jacob built the changing table. I wish I had a "before" picture. I bought this table from a store on Mill. They used to use it as a display table, but when I found it, it was only half a table. As in, only two legs. It was painted black, with mint green showing underneath, and there was a strip of masking tape that said "$10, Cash Only." And I knew it was mine. I made Jacob and his brother carry it, in pieces, for blocks and blocks. Jacob sawed it and stripped it and painted it. We thought about putting it in our entryway. But it ultimately ended up here, in the girl's room. And I only have one word for it: sexy.

After the table, we customized the crib. It started out like this, typical jail cell fare:So we took the sides off, and replaced them with solid wood. Girl's been sleeping in her unfinished crib for months now. But we found the time to paint it, and reassembled it last night. I love it. Even without the adorable yoga-practicing babe inside, I think it looks amazing. Tell me you agree, so I can pass those compliments on to Jacob. He deserves them.

Oh, see it didn't take as long as I thought it would. E-baby looks happy so that's nice. Good job Jacob. I wish Joshy's room was cute. What about bumpers? No bumpers?

No bumpers. I've read lots of stuff that said you shouldn't use them, suffocation risk. I don't know. I'm not like super opposed to them or anything. But since I would have had to make one, I just didn't.

What a great idea to put solid wood on the sides, it makes it seem so much more....inviting!! I can tell that she really loves it, look at those toe touches she's doing!
